How We Met

From Rachel’s Perspective

During my freshman year of college, I decided to try the LDS dating app Mutual. I met some guys, and even had a few dates. After a few months I gave up on it and stopped talking to the people I’d matched with because I needed to focus on other things. I used Mutual on and off again, but never felt a real connection to any of the guys I went out with.

When my brother McKay was planning his wedding at the end of 2020, I felt pretty single. I downloaded Mutual yet again, but found I was unable to log into my account. After a few tries I got frustrated and decided to just make a new account, although I only used it for a few days.

A couple months later I was talking to my mom when she said I should give Mutual one more good try. I did what she suggested and revamped my profile to be clear about who I was and the kind of man I was looking for. Jacob and I matched that night and started getting to know each other.

After a few days Jacob gave me his phone number so we could text instead of having to message through the app. I started putting his number in my contacts, but found it was already there. I realized we had matched and started texting on my previous profile, and that Jacob was one of the guys I had ghosted. If I hadn’t made a new account we never would have been able to match again. It seemed like a good sign.

I’m so grateful that I was able to connect with Jacob twice! I came close to losing my chance with him, and I feel like the luckiest person in the world that I got that second chance.
